Door Systems of Lee’s Summit Donates to Lee’s Summit West High School Inclusion Program

Door Systems Inc. of Lee’s Summit, a family owned and operated garage door and window company, reinforces student acceptance and respect with a donation of $5,000 to the Challenge Day program.

A locally owned and family based door and window company, Door Systems Inc. of Lee’s Summit, believes in community involvement and stands behind the hard work of students at Lee’s Summit West High School. With a donation of $5000 to Challenge Day, an interactive program that took place on April 2 nd , 2018, Door Systems applauds students for actively participating in efforts to secure an environment of acceptance and be trendsetters for a better future filled with respect.

Challenge Day allows LSW students and faculty to embrace Lee’s Summit R-7 vision of “reflecting a culture of respect and acceptance.” Through collaboration and a commitment to fostering social inclusion, students are involved in a variety of trust building activities to gain a fresh perspective on an ever changing and diverse student body. Layana Sariah, has participated in Challenge Day all four years and says “during Challenge Day I have learned that you are never alone in the situations that you go through. It has also taught me to not judge people from what I see on the outside. People who seem to have it all together or have the perfect life have their own issues too.” Door Systems of Lee’s Summit is fully on board with the goals of LSW students to continue academic excellence and extracurricular involvement by being leaders of cultural change through unity and working together.

The staff at Door Systems Inc. of Lee’s Summit is invested in the young people at LSW and their pursuit of positive impact. A driving reason for supporting the cause comes directly from the purpose of the program:

“The day-long, interactive Challenge Day program provides teens and adults with tools to tear down walls of separation, and inspires them to live, study and work in an encouraging environment of acceptance, love, and respect. Using highly interactive and energetic activities, our leaders guide participants through a carefully designed exploration of the ways people separate from each other, and model tools for creating connection and building community. Challenge Day allows students to get to know their fellow classmates better through simulations, games and small group discussions. It empowers students to be advocates of change within their school building and teaches them empathy, compassion and perspective.”

After attending Challenge Day for four years, Mathilda Darkwah, an LSW senior, said “I encourage more high schools to commit to Challenge Day to show students that we all are the same and that all these labels and ideals perpetuated by society only serve as gap between all of us. Challenge Day encourages us to cross that gap, and I strive to cross it everyday.”
